Speech/Language Pathology is another important component of the rehabilitation program at HHC. A proactive, comprehensive program of guidance and re-education is established for any patient who demonstrates deficits in the areas of speech, cognitive/communication, or swallowing impairments to enhance the patient’s quality of life.
Speech language pathologists are responsible for the evaluation and treatment of speech, language, and swallowing disorders (dysphagia).
They provide intervention for patients who have communication difficulties, cognitive loss, and swallowing problems. Upon discharge from therapy, restorative programs are established with the nursing staff or family members to ensure continuity of quality care.
