OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational Therapy is an integral part
of rehabilitation at HHC.
Occupational Therapy focuses on the patient's
ability to perform with the highest level of independence in the activities
of daily living in order to return to his or her prior, optimal functional
levels.
Occupational therapists guide their patients and their families in creating
and developing compensatory techniques for preserving the highest level of
function to enhance quality of life using specialized techniques in ,
compensatory technique training, as per the physician's instructions.
- ADL'S (Activities of Daily
Living)
Occupational therapists provide
skilled care to improve the patient's ability to perform activities of
daily living including:
- Dressing
- Bathing
- Feeding
- Grooming
- Toileting
- Cognitive remediation
- Functional mobility and transfer training for daily
tasks.
- Positioning techniques
- Contracture prevention and management
- Community re-entry
- Job re-entry
- Driver re-education and vehicle adaptation
- Home safety and training to patients and
their families
- Environmental Modification and Adaptive
Equipment Training as needed.
Occupational Therapy is
primarily concerned with improving or developing/restoring the sensory,
motor, cognitive, perceptual and psychosocial skills which have been
impaired by illness or injury. In addition, upon discharge from therapy,
restorative programs are established with the nursing staff or family
members to ensure continuity of quality care.

Our therapists will provide an
evaluation within 24 hours of an admission to establish whether the patient
needs treatment and identify individual goals.
All residents will be screened quarterly to identify all of those who are
suffering from a decline in function and will benefit from intervention.
