Pathology
Speech/Language Pathology is another important
component of the rehabilitation program at HHC. A proactive, comprehensive
program of guidance and re-education is established for any patient who
demonstrates deficits in the areas of speech, cognitive/communication, or
swallowing impairments to enhance the patient's quality of life.
Speech language pathologists are responsible for the
evaluation and treatment of speech, language, and swallowing disorders (dysphagia).
They provide intervention for patients who have communication difficulties,
cognitive loss, and swallowing problems. Upon discharge from therapy,
restorative programs are established with the nursing staff or family members to
ensure continuity of quality care.

Our therapist will provide an evaluation within 24 hours of
an admission to establish whether the patient needs treatment and to identify
individual goals. All residents will be screened quarterly to identify all of
those who are suffering from a decline in function and will benefit from
intervention.
